FinOps
Tags, quotas, and squad dashboards so Kubernetes and cloud spend has an owner.
Who this is for
- A cloud or cluster bill with no squad-level view
- Finance partners who receive one opaque invoice
- Demo and non-production environments that never turn off
An owner on the spend
Required labels for team, environment, and cost center. Finance then sees spend split by team, not one monthly total.
Guardrails that stay on
Quotas and scale-down for non-production outside working hours. A one-time cleanup fades. A policy on the spend does not.
What changed in a real rollout
On one EKS cluster running 40 services, the monthly cloud bill fell 35%, and every team could see what its namespaces cost. The case study walks the milestones. The same pattern applies on other clouds once tags and owners exist.
Capabilities
- Cost allocation, tagging, and a view per squad
- Quotas and scale-down for non-production
- Idle-spend reports and budget alerts
- A monthly export by squad, not one lump-sum invoice

Common questions
Do you start by buying a FinOps tool?
No. Tags and quotas come first. Kubecost, Cost Explorer, or the Azure and GCP equivalents display the result. They are not the project.
Will this cut production capacity?
The savings we aim for are idle non-production and unowned spend. Production capacity is a separate decision.
